- Deposit received and balance due
How graphic designers usually bill
Designers often bill by project in phases: a 30 to 50% deposit to start, then the balance on delivery of final files. Being specific about the number of concepts and revision rounds included, and pricing extra rounds separately, prevents scope creep. Many designers transfer final files and rights only once payment is complete, and say so on the invoice.
Frequently asked questions
How many revisions should be included?
Two or three rounds is common. State the number in your proposal and invoice extra rounds at a set price or your hourly rate.
Should I send final files before I'm paid?
Many designers send watermarked or low-resolution proofs first and release final files on full payment. Put this policy in your contract.
Do graphic designers charge sales tax?
Design services are not taxable in many states, but some tax digital files or printed materials. Check your state's rules.
