When to give a receipt

Give a receipt every time a customer pays you, whether at a market stall, after a service call, or for a cash sale. It protects both sides: the customer has proof of purchase for returns and expense claims, and you have a numbered record that matches your books. Keep a copy of each receipt (or save it as a PDF) and log the sale in the income and expense tracker.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a receipt?

Enter your business name and address, add each item with quantity and price, set the sales tax rate and payment method, then click Print receipt. The preview shows exactly what will print.

What should a sales receipt include?

Your business name and contact details, a receipt number, the date and time, each item with quantity and price, subtotal, sales tax, total, payment method and any change given. This tool includes all of them.

Can I print on a thermal receipt printer?

Yes. The receipt is about 3 inches wide, which suits most 80 mm thermal printers. Choose your receipt printer in the print window and set margins to none or minimum.

What's the difference between an invoice and a receipt?

An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms payment was made. See our invoice vs receipt guide for when to use each.
